These records come from a variety of sources. Records from Fayette County Offices are so noted.
If you're not familiar with Ohio Birth Records, they were not required until 1867.
The birth was reported when someone was going to Washington C. H. From some areas of Fayette County, a trip to the county seat and the return trip home would take most of a day.
It was not always a family member who reported the birth. In many instances, it would have been a neighbor who was going into town for other business and was asked to report the birth while they were in town. That is why most births were reported months after the child's birth.
